Topic: Cloudkill Question

I was looking at Cloudkill in the free pdf rules, and am I reading this right -a 20'x20'x20' cloud of death, at a maximum range of 10 feet?  There's no way to cast this without risking killing yourself.  Is it intended to be this brutal for the caster?  Granted it's cloudkill which we used to use to exterminate dungeons populations en masse  so perhaps it needs the nerf.

In other books, they mention the cloud forming next to the caster, so I'd put the edge, not the center, of the cloud 10' away.
