If you completely and permanently drop the Specialist class, giving the abilities to all characters wouldn't be an issue.

Interesting thoughts from all concerned.

I don't have demi-human PCs and monsters are not exactly thick on the ground so I haven't encountered these problems yet.

I'm on the fence when it comes to insta-death and cursed items. They are two things that can clearly drive beaviour. Use it too often and the players will be incredibily cautious. Very cautious players can lead to an over-long, stressful and dull session.

I think if you play back-to-back scenarios from LotFP you might find your game derailed. I slip them in every now and then. After all, if you make every scenario Weird, you defeat one of the goals of the game (play in a mundane world so Weird occurances really stand out).

Very nice. Any chance of italicising and bolding the non-encumbering and heavy bits?

The format and layout of the PDFs is totally different to the Delux print version. The print version is waaaay better!

There was talk of a +1 to the Con bonus.

If nobody does it, leave it out.

Or make it like a regular scroll that requires a hair/ear/snout/soul of whatever you need protection from (bring me the liver of a plump tax collector...).

The other costs and procedures seem reasonable and it seems like a valid way to get cash out of the game without turning fudalism into capitalism.

Hi folks,

I've crammed all of the basic adventuring gear from the Rules booklet onto 2-and-a-bit pages for easy purchasing during character generation.

I've also 'fixed' the things that I thought need it - for example clothing and backpacks are specifically mentioned as being non-encumbering items when worn but are not italicised in the equipment selection listings. I also took the liberty of italicising the caltrop and dart...

You can download the file here: https://sites.google.com/site/hogtunnel … =0&d=1

Cheers

Thanks very much for the tips - I'll take those on board for sure.

If I was running this for my regular group, there would be no issue with the rules but there may be with a bunch of randoms...

I plan to leave it as cruel and unforgiving as written but give the guys a headsup before we start!

Right-oh.

A gaggle of Herberts coming right up.

Groovy.

If I'm doing pregens should I add a retainer or two?

Next weekend would suit me better folks - it's a long weekend over here - grand final footy fever and all that!

I don't know what came over me but I volunteered to run LotFP: Weird RPG at my local game store!

I haven't run a game for complete strangers for what must be about 18 years and I'm crapping myself...

I'm almost certainly going to use Tower of the Stargazer and there could be as many as 8 players.

Can someone throw me a bone? Any tips to ease through a session of Stargazer would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds about perfect then (I'm two hours away from Melbourne).

I'm in Western Australia which (I think) is 13 hours adrift from your time zone - but if you play on the weekend I'm pretty sure I could make it work?

A small kingdom with plenty of internal problems and no shortage of dramas abroad... More to come.

Nice. Thanks Jim.

Hi folks,

I love the encumbrance rules. It's the only enc. system that's survived past the first session. It's great.

And I'm confused (it doesn't take much).

On p27 (print copy) the rules indicate that only worn chain and plate armour count towards encumbrance yet clothing types and leather armour are not italicised in the equipment lists (to indicate non-encumbering items) - should they be?

Also on p27 'Worn items, such as cloaks, jewelery, backpacks, etc. do not themselves count as items for enc....' Good, makes sense. When I check the equipment lists (containers, p19) some of those containers are italicised (non-encumbering) and some (like the backpack) aren't. I would have thought that the backpack and sack should be listed in italics (maybe even the saddlebags). In keeping with the logic of the rule, it's what you put in the container that generates the mass.

Now that I'm being vigilant about the stuff the characters and retainers are carrying, one item can make the difference between being lightly encumbered (and therefore not able to use class abilities).

Anyone wiser than I able to help out? I know I could just make a ruling and stick with it but I'd like to know what others think - I'm probably just missing something simple.

Many thanks

I'll play with the rules as written before trying any house rules. Cash and killing is easy.

Here's a small one - in the equipment lists, the backpack should be italicised - as it is a non-encumbering item.

Cheers

I've just placed an order with Milsims in Melbourne for my copy of Weird FRP - I should have it in my stickly little hands by early next week!

The way I read it: if you have 2 weapons you make one die roll to hit, if successful you decide which weapon delivers the damage points. It seems like almost no rule at all.

A couple of lines for dual weapon combat seems a bit out of place next to the verbose discussion of 'grappling' immediately after.

In my experience, characters are far more likely to try fighting with two swords than strip down and oil up for a manly wrestling bout. But hey, that's just me.

What level were those hapless wanderers Bradiation?

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip Jeff.

Interesting point Jeff. I suspect my group would baulk at a TPK too.

In my early days, the GM wouldn't let you fill out a character sheet until your PC made it to level 2 - such was the fragility of your budding hero (and the cost of photocopying). Of course today's RPGs deliver you a capable character from the get-go so you fast-forward those early days.

Ironically I'm less inclined to fudge the rolls these days. Weird RPG is definitely a campaign game but I don't think it's intended to be comprised of just Weird Tales advenutres - after all Jim makes the sound point that if your fantasy world only has a little bit of Weird in it, the Weird Tales really stand out - if every adventure is a Weird Tale, you might as well have magic-users selling fireball wands on every street corner.

Of those two adventures you mention, I've tracked down Evermore but I'm not sure what Spire of Ice and Crystal is or where to find it?
