Will this have the "My mage is a junkie!" cover?

If you're interested in more variability without there having to be classes, I made an option for "Classless LotFP" here in the Undercroft 'zine: http://www.rpgnow.com/product/145420/The-Undercroft-4

You could always start by the GM rolling a d20 at the same time and secretly taking the worst of the two. Once they start figuring out that they're missing, they may start to wonder what's going on. Then you can add in the "feeling heavy" flavor. Once they put 2 and 2 together, you can let them roll both d20s.

Personally, I chuck all XP calculation systems and just grant XP based on overall session play. Figure out how quickly you want the group to advance (e.g., roughly 3 sessions per level) and give out experience accordingly.

Hey there! I'm 47, look 57, feel 67 and act like I'm 77 (get off my lawn!), so there's that! Welcome!
This forum comes and goes in terms of activity. I bet it will pick up a bit when the Ref's book will (hopefully) get released over the summer.

If it's cheap I use it! I scrounge whatever I can, 50c minis here, dollar minis there.
I'll use D&D plastics, Bones Kickstarter minis; I have some Wargames Factory minis for Anglo/Zulu stuff, I rebase Heroclix, Heroscape and Dreamblades. I have metal minis from tons of different companies from the early 80s to today. The old metal sometimes helps to evoke the 'simple man' feel of LotFP, since they are usually less detailed and ornamental. They're all good! I even use a bunch of BattleLore Pikemen as Halflings.

That being said, I do highly recommend checking out Dreamblade minis. Dreamblade was this odd little chess-like game with som really weird dreamlike/nightmarish figures that are perfect for LotFP. Not all, of course, but a good number.

Those Pike & Shotte minis posted earlier look really nice for LotFP's 'unofficial default setting'

Hey, I can finally say it!

Check out the new Undercroft #4 for my rules on classless (and by definition, raceless) characters!
They are very similar to what I've presented before, but now it's (semi-)official.

Do what you need to do. Remember that you're the GM, not the dice!

... I don't know what is!

Thanks, I'll share any steps I'll come up to speed things along as well.

Have you seen Solomon Kane? A bit over the top, but I did enjoy it.
I do recommend reading the original Solomon Kane stories. You can get all of the stories in one book.
Also the comic adaptations are pretty good as well.

A Field in England (2013 film) is the right time period and gets good reviews.
Day of Wrath (1943 film), Mother Joan of the Angels (1961 film), Witchfinder General (1968 film) and The Devils (1971 film) are all about 17th century witch-hunts which should be appropriate as well.

I've also heard good things about Brotherhood of the Wolf (film), but it's about 100+ years later.

Mind you, I haven't seen most of these, just read descriptions, but they sound pretty good!

The winner was eaten apparently.

Hi all,

At GenghisCon in Denver on the weekend of February 15th, I'll be running Hammers of the God, heavily modified using the Savage Worlds rules. Has anyone run this at a convention or having any shortcuts to make it essentially a one-session game?

I'm a "player-centric" gamer. A new character comes in at the same level (but without the gear found from adventuring). Losing a character you've enjoyed playing is much more of a punishment than starting at lower levels, which is just primarily an annoyance to the player (as it alters their playing style until they "catch up").

Upon further reflection, I think this will just be too much for me. That being said, I did look around and saw a nice 'zine called The Undercroft http://whatwouldconando.blogspot.co.uk/ … oft-1.html where I can send my ideas and hope they get published!
It sounds like he has a little bit of a backlog now, but I'm hopeful for the future.

Hi all,

I've been bandying this about for a little while about how to help get the word out about LotFP.
In the past I did a fanzine for Savage Worlds called Shark Bytes, and I wondered if I could do something like that again.

I've talked with James about doing something like and it wouldn't conflict with Green Devil Face.

Instead it would be a more informal PDF 'zine for getting our ideas out there. I have two things of my own (a map of possible locations for various LotFP products on an earth map) and my "Classless LotFP"
If anyone would like to contribute (house rules, new races, classes, adventures, rules) I'd be glad to include them.
This is vanity only so I can't pay, but I can format it to look somewhat decent!

The first thing I need is a name...

I think Death Frost Doom is great, but also long for a single session (I also "led in" DFD with the first episode of No Dignity in Death and the players going through Pembrooktonshire, so it made the threat even more real as they became attached to some of the interesting patrons of the town.)

For thematic effect (and one that's off the beaten path), how about Tales of the Scarecrow?

I agree with the above; most adventuring clerics are probably more mystics than traditional clergy, so they are used to being on the edges of society themselves. They may not like magic, but they understand it and may realize that they actually have more in common than they don't.

Not officially of course, but in my mind it is:

The Lost Idol of Apotheosis.

Whoever truly accepts the idol as their own becomes a god-like being of both Law and Chaos, advancing as a Mage, Cleric and Fighter simultaneously, and being affected both positively and negatively by both aspects. The catch is that the owner must kill everyone that they know before assuming the mantle of god-hood. To facilitate this, the idol promotes discord by requiring Wisdom checks every time there is a hint of an argument in the idol's presence. Upon failure the argument escalates to loud shouting.  Two rounds later another Wisdom check at -2 is made. If this fails, the affected parties fall to fisticuffs. After four rounds of bare-handed fighting, another Wisdom check, this time at -4 is made. If this one fails, the affected parties draw weapons and go at it until all but one is dead. The victor can then accept the idol and become a fledgling god!
If the new god encounters someone they knew previously, they must kill the person within one day or else the new god loses one point from every attribute each day until they either kill the person in which case they immediately return to normal, or any attribute is reduced to 0, in which case the former new god is immediately consumed in flames and dies, leaving the idol sitting in the pile of ashes.

I don't follow.

I think he's making a distinction between killing off the players vs killing off the player characters.  (I often use the terms interchangeably too, but they are technically different...)

Yes, that is what I meant!

Why? Because he was a now an arcane spellcaster who was ineffective in one fight? Was he no longer a cleric?

I play SK straight out of the book and I love it! There is so much in there that is not game specific that would be useful for an LotFP game, that it is a bargain at the price (and you essentially get the Savage Worlds core rules to boot).

As to all the stories, I highly recommend this book:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Savage-Tales- … 0345461509

For comic stories, there is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Saga-Solomon-Kane … dark+horse
Black and White, but 416 pages, some versions of REH stories and some new.
