Topic: WIP houserules for Spelljammer-like ships - Adventures in the Void

Hey guys, new to the forum here.

I have been wanting to try out a "Weird Jules Verne"-like and "Sword & Planet"-like adventure and borrow liberally from Spelljammer. The premise could be something like "what if John Carter (of Mars) was in the 17th Century and living in Europe?". Before I continue writing out more, I was thinking maybe you guys might have some thoughts or opinions on the matter?

I have my wip rules here:

I have drawn some inspiration from the game Triplanetary from 1973.

Where do you like, go in the void boats? What would you see on the way there?

Hey anxietywizard,

I would draw on inspiration from the "Sword & Planet" genre. I'd let people visit other planets and explore them. Perhaps fight four-armed aliens, or find treasures from civilizations long dead and forgotten.

In transit there could be the potential to engage with other voidcraft, maybe manned by pirates or sailors of some other nation. Spatial phenomena, such as magical tides or solar winds could assail the ship, or strange space whales (or sharks?) could be encountered.

I have been reading up on Spelljammer material too, which features a variety of adventures: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelljammer
