Topic: Can anyone recommend a bestiary?

Which resources are people using to get the more generic enemies for their games (goblins, bears, skeletons and the like)? Which ones work best for LotFP? I'm just starting to build a campaign and would like to toss a few of 'the usual suspects' onto my random encounter tables.

Re: Can anyone recommend a bestiary?

The free no-art version of Labyrinth Lord (and the Advanced Edition Companion) are good sources of classic monsters, as are various editions of Swords & Wizardry.

Monsters of Myth is another good free one:

Re: Can anyone recommend a bestiary?

Thanks heaps you two, that should keep me and the enemy (players) busy for a bit. wink

Re: Can anyone recommend a bestiary?

Wizards and Warriors version of tome of horrors maybe? Not so great for the basics, but some really interesting monsterous monsters.

Personally, I think the "usual suspects" don't fit well in LotFP.  In order to encourage some experimentation:

Esoteric Creature Generator:

Two charts that I created (with inspiration from other sources):

This book is great for more than just monsters (and there's a print version in addition to this PDF):

New Classic Monster Manual type book:

I love this book - it can be used for almost anything:

Re: Can anyone recommend a bestiary?

Teratic Tome is a most evil monster book. Statted for OSRIC, so conversion should be easy.

Another favourite is Malleus Monstrorum, for Call of Cthulhu (or any BRP/d100 game). Stats haveto be revorked, but for pure bizarre inspiration this is my favourite.
