Topic: LOTFP WFRPG question

I just want to make sure that the magic-user in Weird Fantasy RPG really has no restrictions on weapon use or armor?  I don't see any restrictions in the rules, but I guess I'm just old school and expect them to be there.

Also, the specialist does not have the restriction, but there is a statement in the rules that someone in full plate cannot surprise anyone.

There is also not a mention of any weapon restrictions for a cleric.  I can understand that this may be dependent upon the cleric's deity--so I've got no problem there.

By the way, cool game!  I really like the look-and-feel of WFRPG.  At first I was a little turned off by the absence of magic items and monsters.  But after reading through the referee's guide, I like it.  That proliferation of tons of monsters and characters with tons of magic items has always bugged me.

Re: LOTFP WFRPG question

I agree that a bucket-load of monsters and magic is not always a good thing but a handful of examples that set the tone of the game would have been nice.

Take Dragon Warriors for instance. A few pages of magic items are included and each one is evocative of the setting.

It's not the years, it's the mileage.

Re: LOTFP WFRPG question

I wanted to ask that question too! I guess its up to the individual referee to decide, but I'd be interested to hear if that was your intention?

Re: LOTFP WFRPG question

That question is answered in an earlier thread. There are no restrictions on weapons or armour for M-Us/Clerics.

Although my conern about monters and treasure is not addressed as far as I can see.

It is further compounded by the detais contained the Weird World adventure/setting. The author describes a colony vampires, gives some basic stats and includes the line 'they have the same powers/restrictions as other undead'. Of course, as there's no monster section in the rule books, we don't know what those are unless we obtain another OSR book.

This makes WFRP an incomplete game. Grrr.

It's not the years, it's the mileage.

Referee book p35 gives a whole list of Undead details, certainly enough to fill in these blanks.

Re: LOTFP WFRPG question

There are no restrictions on weapons/armor for anyone with a few exceptions:

Halflings and large weapons.

Elves and MUs don't have armor restrictions, but do have encumbrance restrictions for casting spells (see the Magic book). Specialists and Halflings have encumbrance restrictions for their abilities as well.

That's one reason why I put the adventures in there (although the adventures are separate in PDF form). I could have a game which says "No standardization!" (although the scrolls/staves/potion creation rules create a standard for those sorts of items) and include examples without worrying they become "official."

Re: LOTFP WFRPG question

Yes, of course that makes sense Jim.

Your PDF customers are left out on a limb though...

I only make these observations because the game is so good - if it wasn't, I'd vote with my feet and go elsewhere.
